masaledar media…
August 2, 2007 by mpriya
Recently there has been a lot of talk on the standard of journalism or lets say lack of it… most of the stories which appear on news channels are full of hype and masala…the stories are shown only for a day and then they are forgotten..
Some of the hillarious ones are:
1. A story on the sour marriage relation ship between Raja and Sweta (Prerna in‘kasauti zindagi kay’). The journalist questions Raja for a long time and harasses him, asks him rudely whether he is drunk etc etc..to which when he grabs her and asks her to smell his breath!!!the heading for the BREAKING NEWS becomes ‘Raja manhandles lady reporter’..i have seen this news item..if that lady did the same thing to me even i would get angry…
2. The really bad clippings of Abhi-Ash marriage..the clippings looked as if it was from a pirated CD..the quality was that bad..but what hype..the whole day all channels had nothing but this as BREAKING NEWS…yuck
3. Hype on Bipasha -John break up afer she kissed Ronaldo..really dont media people have any work to do..
4. Newspapers front page headlines also do not spare us of crap: they talk of anything and everything under the sky and usually it is about relationship status of some or the other cine star…their break up and then the best part is they try and analyse why these relationships did not last the test of time??? then come the SMS polls…eeks
During all this crap coverage, one wonders why news such as death of Col.Vasanth, or the fact that India has got ‘the last letters written by Gandhiji’ from London etc… do not receive much attention and get printed in small letters in the 2nd of 3rd page…
News now a days is nothing but silly and masaledar..they say they are reporting for the masses..are they really reporting for the masses???
lols… reporting for the masses… and they have sportive taglines.
col.vasanth wasn’t talked about at all. that is news. we have a martyr who fought against insurgents.
one actor flinging abuses at another, a fight for the no. 1 position. obviously that’s cinema, or do we have our news-channels planning a similar makeover? and if i’m correct they is a hindi soap on one, related to lawyers. are they really that jobless?
@mouna: yes indeed they seem to be jobless or simply lazy not to get some real stories… whatever the case might be…Indian journalism is the loser and we get crappy news…
Do you buy ‘Times of India’? Time to switch then..
Media caters to the majority of the crowd, aka mass and mass comprises of jobless creatures who have this insatiable curiosity to know all that’s hapening in someone else’s life, well..this is the result.
Sad state of affairs, though..
@citric acid: interesting user name..’times of india’ never..try watching star news (hindi)… abba general gossip is the base of ther news items…
hey,
i agree that media is projecting non news as news, but there are many positive cases too. dont just generalise. col.Vasanth was a page one story in Express. hope you have seen it.
@venu:hi! though i agree that there many positive caes, but i think the in general, most of the news channels or the majority of the newspapers i think do seem to like masala items these days to popularise their circulation or increase their viewership …
News papers are dictating the people on what to like and what not! You can imagine a cricket world cup without the media intervension? They make people think, eat, drink and breathe the news. When Sanjay Dutt is jailed, they hop over one another in creating a sympathy for him, across the nation. When Salman Khan attends a court session it becomes a headline. When Aishwarya marries it stops the nation’s media for days!!
When there is a news, media hops on it and sensationalise it to keep people busy with their pranky strangles!!
Gosh! when are we growing up?
They make a hue when Pratibha Patil wins an election, but had Kalam won, they’d have put forth a question as to why India ignoring women folk….and such….
If something happens, they ponder on the thing that doesnt happen. By doing this, they are sure that people are engaged with their soaps. I guess News channels are no different from the K series stuff!!
Mouna calls me “Angry young man” when i open up for such issues, and let me be one!
@srik: angry young man or not..i do agree with you points..
